Presentation
The Botanical Garden of Barcelona is a cultural
good whose mission is to promote biological, documentary,
historic and landscape heritage and values. We
seek to make these values part of all our activities.
We are currently developing a programme to illustrate
the identity of the Garden, and the role it plays
in the city. We also seek to show the work we do
at the Garden, particularly in the fields of research,
conservation, gardening and sustainability.
With these aims in mind, our programme of activities
seeks to:
- Increase visitors’ knowledge and understanding of Mediterranean plant
life.
- Promote science (both general concepts and actions carried out by the Garden
and the Institute) in the field of conservation and sustainability.
- Provide information about the use of plants (ethnobotany).
- Strengthen the presence of the Garden in Barcelona, in Catalonia and the
world.
- Transmit the message that this is a young garden, growing every day, and
invite the public both to see it grow and to grow along with it.
- Provide visitors with useful information through the appropriate use of
posters and signage.
- Establish links and cooperation with other institutions and facilities
to organise talks and debates about subjects relating to botany.
- Offer the Garden as a point of interest on naturalist routes in and around
Barcelona and develop activities of common interest to the Garden and other
institutions.
- Bring the Garden closer to citizens, opening it up to social and cultural
activities and celebrations.
- Promote environmental causes.
- Cooperate with different associations to foster
understanding of groups of plants such as cacti,
orchids or fungi.
